Description
This North Beach cafe and bar was frequented by the Beat Generation writers and artists, who often spent hours talking, drinking, and writing. Vesuvio was a popular spot for Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti to gather and share their work. When the movement came to an end in the early 1960s, Vesuvio closed its doors. However, it has recently been revived as a tourist attraction with City Lights Bookstore next door.
